In May I took my biggest adventure in travel for 8 years. The previous was 2015, when I travelled to South America following my diagnosis of muscular dystrophy. In those early years of the condition, I was more mobile, more active, and travelling without two Duracell-charged children. However, back then I found travelling a much more stressful experience.
My travels in 2015 started out as a thrilling adventure, but soon became filled with daily worries due to the lack of accessibility that I found. It was actually this experience that led me to create Limitless Travel, so anybody and everybody would be able to explore this wonderful world we live in.
Fast forward 8 years >> a marriage, two children, and my dreams for Limitless becoming a reality, I was now journeying back to Central America for a 3 week adventure in Costa Rica. This time travelling with my family, a new perspective on life, and an assured confidence that there was nothing to fear.
My trip was organised by our brilliant team at Limitless Travel. From our arrival at the airport, to checking in at the paradise-like accessible accommodation in the rainforest, everything had been take care of. It made the world of difference.
There was no worry, stress or hassle, just pure excitement at the prospect of trekking through the rainforest, floating down rivers, exploring mountain cloud forests, zip-lining over the jungle canopy, surfing in the pacific, and deep sea fishing in the Caribbean.
It provided me with great peace of mind that every aspect of my trip had been thoroughly thought through and planned. For the first time in years I was able to truly switch off.
Although, I must thank my son for his 'assistance' in this detox...
This trip, and its lack of distractions, reminded me just how important and incredible travel is. It enables you to step away from your day to day life and immerse yourself in a new and exciting world. I was able to let my brain rest, to let it wander where it might, to reflect on what I am so grateful for in my life. It certainly helped that I was able to do this whilst gazing across some of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen.
For me that is the reinvigorating power of travel, taking you to a place where you can truly become yourself, to switch off, and enjoy the soul-soothing serenity (before the kids wake up).
