Once aboard the cruise ship, you’ll have a chance to settle into your cabin, explore the ship, and meet your fellow Limitless travellers. The Limitless Care Team is always available to provide support and ensure your holiday gets off to the best possible start.
Exploring the Iona Your first day at sea is all about exploring the ship and settling in. Typically, the Limitless Team meets with everyone in the morning to catch up over breakfast, make sure you had a comfortable night, discuss the day ahead, and plan activities. We often lunch and dine as a group as well, so you’re never short of company.
During days at sea, there’s plenty to see and do on the Iona. As a group, Limitless travellers often enjoy a relaxed morning, followed by a group lunch and some afternoon fun - be it a theatre show or a movie. Then it’s time to get dressed up for a delicious dinner, followed by some fantastic evening entertainment. Of course, how you spend your day is entirely up to you! But it’s good to know that the Limitless Team and your fellow travellers are always around too.
Port Visit Land ahoy! Once a Viking stronghold, Stavanger is famed for the beautiful wooden homes that line the streets of the historic city centre. The port is a flat, 10-minute walk from the city centre and there are plenty of local restaurants and bars close by, making it a great opportunity to sample deliciously authentic Norwegian cuisine.
The city market is the place to pick up mementoes, while the imposing Stavanger Cathedral is Norway’s oldest, and the picturesque Blue Promenade is fantastic for a post-lunch stroll or roll. For a full tour of Stavanger’s main attractions, we recommend the excellent, wheelchair-accessible Hop-On, Hop-Off bus tour, which stops at the port. The service can get busy, so speak to a Limitless team member in advance to secure your ticket.
Port Visit Nestled at the end of the majestic Innvikfjorden - one of Norway's most iconic fjords - Olden is a sensationally pretty town surrounded by spectacularly beautiful mountains. It’s also home to the Skylift, a fully accessible cable car attraction that climbs almost 1,000 metres to the peak of Mt. Hoven. At the top, the views of the fjord and surrounding mountains are unforgettable. There’s also a restaurant with warming log fires, so you can sit back and soak up the vista over a nice bite to eat.
If you’re not keen on the cable car, Olden town centre is a pleasant 15-minute walk from the ship. There, you’ll find a few shops, restaurants and bars, and can relax and enjoy the landscape at a lower altitude. You’re also welcome to stay aboard the ship and spend the day enjoying its excellent facilities.
Port Visit The small village of Hellesylt sits at the head of one arm of the beautiful Geirangerfjord. A sleepy town, with docking space for just one cruise ship at a time, Hellesylt is sometimes an anchor port that requires small tenders to reach shore, restricting access. You can learn more about anchor ports in our FAQs.
Many Limitless travellers use this as an opportunity to stay aboard and enjoy the ship at its quietest. The real highlight of the day is the glorious natural landscapes and serene cruise through the fjord, which resumes in the afternoon, as we make our way back out to the sea via the Geirangerfjord, Sunnylvsfjorden & Storfjorden.
*On the following 2025 sail dates, the ship will dock in Flam, Norway, instead of Hellesylt. 31 May, 14 June, 28 June, 12 July, 9 Aug & 23 Aug.
Port Visit Welcome to Haugesund - home of the Vikings. Though the town itself is relatively young, the local area was a hotbed of Viking activity, and the first king of Norway, Harald Fairhair, lived just 8 km from the modern settlement. After disembarking the Iona, we typically catch the accessible bus into the city centre to maximize your time there.
Known as the birthplace of modern Norway, Haugesund is a brilliant place to do some holiday shopping and its excellent restaurants ensure this stop is one for the foodies too. There’s also an accessible Hop-On, Hop-Off bus that takes you around all of the city’s main attractions. Finally, we would highly recommend visiting the fascinating Viking Planet museum to learn more about the area’s incredible history.
Sailing Home By now, you will have spent a few days exploring the Iona and enjoying the facilities, activities and entertainment. But we guarantee there are still things you’re yet to see, do or find. Have you checked out the onboard art gallery? Stopped by the library to pick up a bit of holiday reading? Taken part in the ever-popular interactive quiz show?
As we make our way back to Southampton, this is a great opportunity to check out those parts of the Iona you’re yet to see or return to your favourite spots. Have a chat with your Tour Manager in the morning and organise the perfect day.
Disembark Following your final breakfast aboard the ship, the Limitless team will assist with check-out. The ship’s crew will take down your bags, and we’ll help you disembark, make sure you reach your pick-up, and say our farewells. Your transfer will then get you home, dropping you off at your front door.
We can’t wait to see you on your next Limitless holiday!
With its state-of-the-art design and unrivalled style, the Iona is rightly regarded as one of the world’s most advanced cruise ships.
At the heart of the ship stands the jaw-dropping SkyDome, a glass-roofed social area that boasts incredible views and connects you with the sea, sky and shoreline. By day, it’s a relaxed poolside area with casual dining and drinking options. By night, it’s a one-of-a-kind entertainment venue where you can enjoy stand-out shows beneath a star-studded sky.

FAQs
What month is best to cruise Norwegian fjords?
Embarking on a journey through the Norwegian fjords is a breathtaking experience, best enjoyed during the summer months.
The Limitless Travel Norwegian Fjords Cruise in Summer 2025 sets sail in the warm and welcoming embrace of summer, offering not just the majestic views of towering snow-capped peaks and labyrinth waterways but also the most spectacular coastline vistas.
Summer, from June to August, provides the ideal climate for cruising, ensuring that the natural beauty of Norway's fjords is showcased in all its glory.
Will I see the Northern Lights on a fjords cruise?
While the Northern Lights are a bucket-list phenomenon, their visibility is highly dependent on the time of year.
The Limitless Travel Norwegian Fjords Cruise is scheduled for the summer months when the days are long and nights are short, making it unlikely to witness the Northern Lights, which are best seen from late autumn to early spring.
However, this cruise promises its own array of natural wonders, including the serene beauty of Norway's summer landscape, which is equally mesmerising.
Is it cold on a fjords cruise?
Even in summer, when the Norwegian fjords reveal their full splendour under a milder climate, it's wise to prepare for a range of temperatures.
Aboard the P&O's Iona Cruise Lines, you'll be cruising in comfort, but when exploring the decks or venturing into port towns like Stavanger, Hellesylt, Olden, and Haugesund, having layers can help you adapt to the cooler air and breezes off the water.
The cruise ensures a cosy experience, whether you're soaking in the panoramic views from the ship or exploring the quaint port towns, with all the amenities to keep you comfortable.
What’s included in a P&O Iona accessible cabin?
Accessible cabins are available on request. However, they are limited and places sell out quickly. Accessible Outside, Balcony & Mini-Suite Cabins may also be available, though prices will vary. Every accessible cabin features:
Wide access doors
Space for mobility scooters to be stored
Wet room bathrooms with wide door access and grip handles
Air conditioning
TV, fridge and hairdryer
Tea and coffee-making facilities
An equipment hire service is available and includes powered wheelchairs and hoists.
How does Limitless assist with check in and boarding?
Having met the Limitless Team at the port, we'll accompany you to the special assistance check-in. As it's separate from regular check-in, there are no crowds or lengthy queues.
You'll then be given a boarding time. Usually, we board as a group. However, if this isn't possible and you would like the assistance, we ensure a carer accompanies you onto the ship.
We board via the accessible gangway. This ramp connects the ship to the port. If you require support or assistance, both the Limitless Team and the ship's crew will be on hand to help. There are also manual wheelchairs available to make this transfer easier.
On some ships, the accessible gangway can be a little steep. In these instances, two crew members will provide support - one in front and one behind. You'll never be rushed and your safety and comfort are always the priorities.
Remember, you don't need to pre-book any special assistance at the port! We provide this assistance as standard with all Limitless cruises.

What are anchor ports and is Limitless responsible for port changes?
At Limitless Travel, we carefully select cruise itineraries with minimal anchor ports. Anchor ports are those destinations where port logistics mean a small boat or ‘tender’ transport is required to ferry guests to shore. In the vast majority of cases, these tenders are not accessible and some Limitless Travellers will not be able to leave the ship.
Unfortunately, port changes can happen due to any number of reasons while at sea. Limitless Travel cannot be held accountable for any such port changes.
