Dover Castle
Castles, Cathedrals & Seaside Towns
Follow in the footsteps of Chaucer’s literary pilgrims to discover a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the seat of Anglican power on our accessible Canterbury coach holiday. Situated in the heart of the Garden of England, this cathedral city puts you within easy reach of coastal treats, including arty Margate and Dover’s imposing chalk cliffs. During your holiday, you’ll stay in an accessible hotel in Canterbury city centre.
5-Day Accessible Holiday Itinerary
Your holiday begins with an excursion to the seaside enclave of Margate, where an exciting influx of artists, restaurateurs and entrepreneurs has energised the town's classic coastal charm. Next comes Canterbury Cathedral, an important pilgrimage site for more than 1,000 years, and an afternoon exploring the city’s historic streets. On our final full day, we’ll tour Dover Castle and take to the water for an unforgettable view of the cliffs.

Itinerary
Day 1Travel to Canterbury
We’ll meet you at one of our designated UK pick-up points, help you board our accessible coach and ensure you’re comfortable for the journey. All our coaches benefit from hydraulic lift or ramp access, and wheelchairs can be safely secured in place, so there’s no need to transfer to a standard seat. Similarly, all our drivers have experience working with Limitless Travellers and understand and respect individual access needs.
On arrival, you’ll be served complimentary tea and coffee while the Limitless Team helps you check in. Then, you’ll have time to relax, unwind and explore your accessible room, before enjoying a delicious three-course meal in the hotel restaurant. Your Tour Manager will round out the evening with a little entertainment for those not quite ready to hit the hay.
Day 2Margate & the Turner Contemporary
Margate
With its proud maritime heritage and sensational beaches, Margate has been a popular domestic holiday destination for 250 years. In recent years, the town has reinvented itself, investing in the arts with the building of the influential Turner Contemporary gallery in 2011 and encouraging a new generation of artists, creators and business owners to regenerate the area. The process has proven a resounding success.
On arrival in Margate, you’ll have the morning to explore the town and wander the promenade before stopping for fresh-as-it-comes fish and chips. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Turner Contemporary, which is accessible throughout, and come away inspired by its internationally renowned exhibitions. Alternatively, you can always kick back and relax on the town beach.
Day 3Canterbury & the Cathedral
Today, the hotel’s convenient central location proves its worth, as you enjoy the five-minute stroll into the heart of Canterbury. With a history that includes Roman settlement, Viking pillaging and religious immigration, the city abounds with fascinating landmarks and architecture, ranging from Roman walls to medieval lanes and tower-flanked gates.
However, Canterbury’s real showstopper is its cathedral. Founded by St. Augustine in 597 AD, it features breathtaking stained glass windows, an imposing Gothic exterior and an atmospheric crypt. There’s also the Martyrdom - the infamous spot where Henry II’s knights murdered Archbishop Thomas Becket in 1170. In the afternoon, you’ll have plenty of time to wander the city’s charming streets and indulge in a delicious cream tea.
Day 4Dover Castle & Boat Tour
On your final full day, we’ll make the short journey to Dover, home to Europe’s busiest ferry port, a truly historic castle and those iconic white cliffs. Situated on the narrowest part of the English Channel and just 33 km from France, the town reflects the UK’s long and fascinating relationship with continental Europe and our neighbours across the water.
First up is a tour of the famous medieval fortress perched high above the town. Founded in the 11th Century and regarded as the “Key to England” for its role in repelling invasions from the continent, it also incorporates more modern features, most notably the secret WWII war tunnels. After, we’ll board an accessible vessel for a 90-minute boat trip into the channel to see the white cliffs in all their glory.
Day 5Breakfast & Travel Home
Today, your Canterbury & the Kent Coast tour comes to an end. After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll board the accessible coach and depart for our various UK drop-off locations. Relax, reminisce with your fellow Limitless Travellers and take in the views. We’ll ensure you’re comfortable for the return journey and look forward to seeing you on your next Limitless holiday!
