Day 4 - Andalsnes & Romsdalsfjord

< >

Our first port of call is the town of Andalsnes, to which holiday makers have been cruising to for over 100 years because of its stunning location, nestled where the towering Romsdal Alps meet the northern end of Romsdalfjord. Andalsnes is a charming and welcoming town adorned with quaint shops and bustling markets, while Romsdalsfjord stands as an awe-inspiring testament to the country's natural beauty. Here, the landscape unfolds like a masterpiece, showcasing deep blue fjords that wind gracefully through the rugged terrain. The emerald hills roll gently, harmonising with cascading waterfalls that paint the air with misty enchantment.

Tromso is our next port of call. This city and surrounding mountains have become a cherished viewing point for the Northern Lights. With its charming collection of centuries-old wooden houses, and the magnificent Arctic Cathedral built in 1965, the city is an architectural collage of the old and new. You’re just 400km from the Arctic Circle in Tromsø, but there’s no need to get out your polar gear. Thanks to its position on the Gulf Stream, this lively city is relatively mild for its latitude. Such a fascinating town deserves time to explore, and so the ship will be docked here overnight.

Day 7 - Alta, Norway

< >

The ship is scheduled to depart early morning, so make sure to be on deck to watch this spectacular port sail past. In the late afternoon we'll be arriving in Alta, home to the Cathedral of the Northern Lights, this is one of the spots you're most likely to catch a glimpse of the polar light show! Other sights include Hjemmeluft, rock carvings that were discovered just 60 years ago that are estimated to be made between 1800 - 6200 years ago.

Day 11 - Stavanger, Norway

< >

Stavanger is our last port of call and a perfect introduction to the Norwegian coastline. This small city is a gateway to Norway's breathtakingly scenic fjordland and holds its own as the revered 'Cradle of the Vikings.' Embracing its lively history dating back to 872 when Viking King Harald Hårfagre founded the Kingdom of Norway in nearby Hafrsfjord, Stavanger exudes a vibrant spirit of its roots.

Moreover, as the gateway to Norway's stunning fjords, Stavanger not only offers cultural riches but also serves as a base for exploring the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds it. Can I see Northern Lights on a Norway cruise?

Yes, it’s possible to see the Northern Lights on a Norway cruise. Northern Lights cruises along the Norwegian coast are specifically designed to take passengers into the Arctic Circle, where the chances of witnessing this natural phenomenon are higher.

These cruises navigate through areas with minimal light pollution and optimal atmospheric conditions, providing a unique opportunity to observe the Northern Lights' dazzling displays against the backdrop of Norway's stunning landscapes.

What are the chances of seeing the Northern Lights on a cruise?

The chances of seeing the Northern Lights on a cruise depend on several factors, including the time of year, weather conditions, and how far north the cruise travels.

The best time to embark on Northern Lights cruises is between late September and late March, when the nights are the longest in the Arctic Circle, increasing your chances of witnessing the aurora borealis.

While no guarantee can be made due to nature's unpredictability, cruises that venture closer to the Arctic Circle along the Norwegian coast improve the likelihood of seeing the Northern Lights. Choosing a cruise that offers multiple nights within the Arctic Circle further enhances your chances.

How long is a Northern Lights cruise?

Our Northern Lights Cruise offers an unforgettable 13-day journey departing from Southampton, crafted to bring you deep into the heart of the Arctic Circle.

As you navigate along the stunning Norwegian coast, this cruise provides unparalleled opportunities to witness the awe-inspiring Northern Lights, one of nature's most spectacular displays.

Beyond the celestial show, you'll experience the unique beauty of the Arctic landscape, rich in wildlife and dotted with picturesque villages, making this adventure a perfect blend of natural wonder and cultural exploration.
